Microphone and Speaker

To ensure you can hear everyone in the room clearly during a meeting, you can take the following steps:

1. Enable Original Sound: In the Zoom desktop client, go to ‘Settings’ > ‘Audio’. Here, find and enable the option for ‘Original Sound’. This setting bypasses Zoom’s automatic noise suppression, allowing the transmission of sound without heavy filtering (tap the More Info button for details)

2. Adjust Noise Suppression Level: In the same ‘Audio’ settings, you can choose the level of noise suppression (auto, low, medium, high). For a more natural room sound, set this to ‘low’ or even turn it off (tap the More Info button for details)

3. Use an External Microphone (optional): An external microphone, especially a directional one, can better capture voices in the room than a built-in laptop mic.

4. Central Microphone Placement: Place the microphone centrally in the room to evenly capture sound from all participants. This could be the laptops mic or an optional external mic.

5. Important: Test Audio Before the Meeting: Do a quick test of your audio setup before the meeting starts to ensure everything is working as expected.

6. Instruct Participants:  Remind your group to not to talk over each other and to speak clearly towards the microphone.

7. Turn Off Other Devices’ Mics: If there are multiple devices in the same room, only one should have the microphone on to prevent feedback or echo.

How to turn off other devices mics:

  • Zoom video:  ON for all other devices. Daze wants to see and coach each person!

  • Zoom audio:  OFF.   This prevents audio feedback. Use one of the following three methods to disable audio. Also see the pics below for clarity.

    • At Sign-In:                                        Choose: "Do not connect to audio"

    • After Joining the meeting:      Choose: "Leave Computer Audio"

    •  Mobile:                                             Choose:  "Disconnect Audio"

Note:   This audio setting is not to be confused with simply muting your device mic.
